Family feedback about MST-CAN
Hear from families about their experience of MST-CAN
Mum
My family worked with MST-CAN, one family 7 kids in 2018. I had service after service, and nothing worked. MST-CAN changed my life, Cathy is amazing. I was drinking heavily and using cocaine, I had suffered loss and was struggling. I couldn’t believe it when I heard the council are even thinking about cutting it to save money, it does not make sense.
You would be still paying for my 7 kids in the care system now and I would be dead. MST-CAN saved my life. We are now a family of 9 kids, no social care or anything else. MST-CAN is brilliant, it saves lives, keeps kids out of care, and money. THINK AGAIN and talk to the people who have used the service. When is the talk with parents and kids, I want to be there!
Dad
MST-CAN has helped me and my boys a lot. I had 5 boys in 2020 when I worked with them, I previously had Signpost, Cluster twice, RES and been on parent group, cooking class and a dad’s group. I was still going on a PLO as things were bad. My 5 boys were going into care, I was stuck. MST-CAN are fantastic they broke things down and helped me so much. I felt I could really say what was going on and could ring them at any time and get help. We needed a lot of support everyday MST-CAN came. I now have 6 boys no social care or early help stuff. I have the plan they left me with and schools help me run this. My boys would be in care without MST-CAN. Please don’t stop it. Come and speak to us.

My name is A and my mum had MST-CAN about 6 years ago. We were arguing she was drinking and I using cannabis and other stuff, windows were getting smashed, police call outs and full on fights. We had been in foster care before, we had other people coming around to help us and it didn’t work. We had the other MST and it didn’t work for us. My mum needed help with the drinking. I was angry, I hadn’t been to secondary school at all. MST-CAN are the best, they helped my mum with the drinking. I didn’t want to talk at first and remember shouting at Jayne and telling her to f*** off all the time. She kept coming back and back. We talked about the past and stuff. First time, I cried I was with Jayne she gets in your head in a good way and helps sort it out. I am working now, mum doesn’t drink and my sister is doing well in school. I saw Jayne on the estate the other week and told the other family that she is a pain in the a*** at first because she never goes away. However MST-CAN is what helps, I would have been in care without them.
Mum
My grandchildren were going in care, in court they talked about sending my 7 year grandson to Norfolk because there was no places in Leeds, he has autism and other special needs. The judge let me have both my grandchildren at home on an interim care order and I had the chance to work with MST-CAN. I praise god that I was given this chance. My grandchildren are still with me now. MSTCAN listened and helped me understand my past and deal with feelings. They helped me put plans in place and I could call them any time of day. When we went back to court everyone agreed I could be the carer for them and the children didn’t need to go. MST-CAN saved me because my grandchildren are my life. Please come to my house and listen to me about MST-CAN and how it helps.
Mum
I have 5 children and one grandchild, my daughter spoke at school about how bad things were, we had, had other services for years and nothing worked. I was drinking everyday and things were getting out of hand. MST-CAN were my guardian angels, I worked with them around 3 years ago, they changed my life and I kept my children. I stopped drinking and started to become the mum I wanted to be. It’s an amazing service and is the one that stops the kids going into care. I would like the people cutting the service to speak with the parents and kids that it has helped, then make the decision.
